Toyota Repair: Purchasing a 1993 Toyota 4 runner, metal particles, toyota 4 runner

Question
I am thinking of purchasing a 1993 toyota 4 runner Sr5 Automatic.  I was wondering what "#1 shift cellunoid is going" exactly means.  And how much this would cost to repair.  I appreciate your time and knowledge.

Answer
Be careful, this is usually an indication that the transmission has a major problem, shift solenoids are rarely the problem, it's usually a transmission that's "going". This is because metal particles from worn parts in the transmission clog up the solenoids.
