Question
i HAVE A TOYOTA COROLLA 2001. IN 2003 I WAS TOLD THE TENSIONER CHAIN or BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CAR HAD 33027 MILES. THE DEALER REPLACED IT NO CHARGE. NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT MY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY QUESTION IS COULD IT WEAR OUT THAT QUICK? THE CAR ONLY HAS 85326 MILES.

Answer
Was it a dealer or a small garage that checked it this time? If your timing chain tensioner is leaking, that means that your chain is loose. If your chain is loose, you can sometimes hear the chain coming in contact with the chain guide. It is unlikely that a chain tensioner will need to be replaced inside of 50,000 miles since your last service. If your chain is loose, you need to remedy the problem right away, a loose chain can cause many many problems.
