Toyota Repair: 93 camry le 4cylinder, brake light switch, metal brace

93 camry automatic, when i touch the brake pedal the bulb out light comes on, and the R light on the dash lights up even still in park.let off the light goes out but the bulb out light stays on..also, when I shift it, no gear shift (p,r,n,1,2,3)light until I get to 3st.then the 2nd and the 1st light light up, I have ck all the bulbs in the rear and even disconnected the wire connectors at the plugs in's. no help..also, new brake light switch to no avail...

There are a couple of possible causes for this, there is a relay in the trunk on the left side behind the carpeting, remove the carpeting and look for the relay, it's mounted to a metal brace on the left, look behind the brace. Remove the relay and check to see if it smells like burned wires, if so replace it. Another reason may be that the wiring in the harness that runs along the left trunk hinge is broken or is shorting out, remove the wiring insulation and check for broken wires all the way to where the wire harness goes into the inside, both of these are common problems.
