Toyota Repair: 4Runner ABS problem, toyota 4runner 4x4, toyota 4runner

Question
I have a 98 Toyota 4Runner 4x4, V6, 137K, I'm not sure if the ABS is causing me problems. Six months ago I was cut off and had to slam on my brakes over a set of RR tracks (25 mph) as the weight lifted off the tire going over the crest of the tracks I believe they locked. When the weight of the vehicle came back down there was a loud sound like 2 plastic gears slipping (drivers side) happend again 2 months later. Last week the temperature dropped to 10deg and as I went to work (10 MPH) I went to apply my brakes and had to use both feet to get them apply same thing happened today (temp dropped again) works fine as soon as I release them. 2 days ago not as cold I started the truck and heard a noise that sounded like a piece of plastic hitting the fan (I found nothing). I noticed today that if I lock the front brakes on ice when they move onto solid ground there is the same noise (like 2 smaller plastic gears slipping on each other almost a buzz) all the noises sound like they are coming from the left drivers’ side fender. I am stationed overseas (Korea) and finding someone to look/ diagnose this will be next to impossible. I have good mechanical knowledge but do not know much about this vehicle, so I am not sure if this is one issue or several the brakes will need to be replaced sometime this summer. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated Thank You.

Answer
The noise you are hearing is the abs actuator controlling the brake pressure it does so with a rapid on off signal from the computer to the actuator, this is normal any time the abs is activated, if there was a malfunction with the system the abs/vsc lights on the dash would turn on.
