Toyota Repair: 1990 4runner A/T oil temp light (4wd), oil temp, transmission fluid

Question
My 4runner has 215k miles or so, the engine runs great.  The transmission was rebuilt about 10k miles ago, because it wasn't shifting right.  Now it works, but both before and after rebuild, the transmission overheats (in 2wd).  If I just keep on driving, it can't decide between gears.  I tend to leave the ECT on, but it was happening with it off, too.  Is there a way to fix this?  A new, or better, transmission radiator?  I plan to 4wheel it this summer, and I'd like to know it'll make it.  Alternatively, is it possible to get a manual put in instead?

Thanks!

Answer
The temp light turning used to be a common problem, make sure the correct transmission fluid is in the trans, use only Dexron III fluid, if necessary get all the old fluid out and install the correct fluid, the transmission may also be overfilled so make sure that's not the case, the transmission is not really overheating, we have found that the oil will aerate and cause foaming, this foam is much hotter than the actual transmission fluid and the sensor will pick this up and turn the light on, this may just fix both of the concerns.
