Toyota Repair: front brake pad selection & replacement, rear brakes, sjms

Question
Hi Ted,
Thanks for considering my question:
I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma "Tacoma 2WD I4 RegCab" and I think the engine-chassis is "2RZFE — RZN140".
Mileage is ~150K and tran is 5-spd stick.
The front brakes were replaced once about 70K ago, and the brake light is coming on, and the pads are due for replacement...the rotors look unscored to my eye, and I was thinking of doing it myself...I've done it on previous cars several years ago and it seemed pretty straightforward.
There are so many pads online, I'm looking for advice on what's best [eg, "TRD" versus "OEM"] as well as any specific tips on the r/r of the pads.
PS The rear brakes appear to have some life left in case you  needed that info.
Many thanks in advance!!

Answer
I always tend to lean toward using OEM parts whenever possible but you can use the TRD pads if you wish, I'm not real sure what the difference is except I think the TRD pads contain more metal, in either case make sure the pad shims are reinstalled and coated with brake lube between the shims and pads,do not use brake lube between the sjms and the brake piston, doing this correctly will eliminate brake squeeks, also make sure the antirattle springs are installed, the pistons can be pushed back in with a large pair of channelock pliers, when doing this the brake fluid will be pushed back into the master cylinder reservoir so check to make sure it is not overfilled.

Yes the shims are reusable as well as all the springs.
