Toyota Repair: Control Arm Bushing, milege, tensioners

Question
Howdy to NY

4A-FE in '92 (150K) Corolla. You advised that the clunking
sound when RF tire hits certain bumps is probably indicative of a
bad bushing on control arm. This makes sense as the sound
*appears* to be coming from underneath where the front
passenger floorboard.

1) Do you suggest I replace both (LR) control arms? 2.) I might
have dealer replace them-what would be typical cost (I know,
prices very).

Also, I was at dealer today getting new water pump for 3S-FE in
my '91 Camry. (125K) It has started to make a low bearing noise.
What is your opinion on the tensioners? Do they go out as often
as water pump? If I have to tear the side of the motor off, I might
as well change things if needed. But, the tensioners aren't cheap,
and probably not in stock. I will replace if needed, but not if
something that is unlikely to fail.

Some dealers always replace the h20 pump & tensioners during
a timing belt change. Others only replace when needed. My
father used to own this car, and his dealer was very
conservative-hence why it was never changed.

Answer
Probably wasnt ness at 60k to do tensioners, I would suggest them now as they may not make it to 180K so youll end up doing the job again later as when the "go" they will take the belt with them.
2 pulleys, about 150-175$
but money well spent.
I would do both side bushings. They have the same milege on them and you may save a few bucks in labor. Youll end up with a smoother ride also.Cost varies widely.no more than 1 1/2 - 2 hours a side
