Toyota Repair: Avalon Airbag Warning Light, airbag warning light, spiral cable

Question
I have a 1998 Avalon with 272K miles on it, and the airbag light has come on.  A dealer diagnosed it as a squib problem with the driver's airbag and gave an expensive repair estimate.  Any chance it's an oxidized connector, or something that I could repair myself?

Answer
If the code is open or short in the squib you may not need the squib. It probably needs the spiral cable thats behind the steering wheel.

you might try www.car-part.com

Keep in mind- When doing air bag repairs, there is a risk of deploying the air bag. If its not bolted in, it basically becomes a missle inside the car.
The pellets used inside to blow the bag are made from the the same solid rocket fuel that powers the space shuttle, on a much smaller scale. No lie! Thats how the bag can inflate and deflate in less than 1/10 of a second.

Dealer may or may not install parts you supply, ask before checking car-pat.
Anyway you look at it, money well spent at the dealer.
