Toyota Repair: 3k vs 5k oil change, oil change intervals, toyota highlander

Question
I've always changed my oil in all my cars at 3k miles no matter what and keep a log on each vehicle. I just bought a 2006 Toyota Highlander and the people at the dealership are telling me that with todays oil that I'm wasting money changing my oil every 3k. They also state that todays oil could easily be good for up to 5k.  I don't know wether to trust my good luck with my cars or to listen what these "experts" tell me. What's your take on this subject?

Answer
Toyota has indeed changed it's recommended oil change intervals from 3K to 5K miles recently.
In order to keep the warranty in effect follow the factory recommendation, if you wish to change the oil at 3000 miles you can do so, I change my oil every 3,000 miles, but that's my personal preference.
