Toyota Repair: setting the timing on celica that wont start, head gasket repair, haynes manual

Question
My celica was partially torn down for a head gasket repair before I got it there fore all the things that should have been marked and labled such as the belt and distributor vacume lines ect had not been done so I dove in with a haynes manual and completed the repair and got the lines and set the timing as closely as possible according to the directions in the manual. when I tried to start the car I got some backfireing through the intake and no start. the check engine diagnostic was no help it simply flashes I don't know how to set the distributor and the manual wasn't much help the car is a 5s-fe. 91 GTS, I have conflicting vacume line information. and rather incomplete. any help you can give me would be appreciated

Answer
The best way for me to try to help you is to send you some illustrations for the cam timing and vacuum hose routing, I will need an email address, the distributor is indexed to only go in one way on the 5SF-E engine so I suspect that the cam timing is off by at least a tooth, please reply to me directly at tedrttr@yahoo.com/ and I will get back to you with some helpful information.
