Toyota Repair: brake light and abs light came on, antilock brake system, negative battery

Question
hi,
i hope you can help me, i do not have a toyota.  i have a 1993 honda accord, but they don't have any experts so i came to you in hopes that you could help me some how.  the temperatures were freezing last night and this morning i got in my car and drove to work, a few minutes before i pulled in to my office the brake light came on then a few seconds later the abs light came on.  what does this mean?  what could be wrong? isn't abs for air bags or something? i just had my oil changed on saturday and this happened tuesday.  i don't know what is wrong, i don't know much about cars.  can you please help?
thank you
vicki

Answer
The first thing I want you to do is open the hood and check the brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir, if it's low it will turn on the warning lights, add some brake fluid if necessary to the max mark and see if that helps, disconnect the negative battery terminal and the light may turn off.
The abs light is related to the antilock brake system and will turn on if there is a malfunction with the system, if after doing what I said before and the lights come on again take it to a Honda dealer or any other shop to get the trouble codes that may be stored in the computer.
