Toyota Repair: 87 Toyota RV w/ 22R EFI, toyota rv, valve clearances

Question
My truck is running rough
Cylinder #3 has low compression @ 125psi a drop of 40psi, average should be at 165psi.
Does this mean that I need to remove the entire cylinder to replace the rings or can the problem be resolved by doing a valve adjustment. If so what are the specs for valve gauge and torque at 68,000 miles.

Please recommend best solution.

Thank you

Answer
First check the valve clearances, they should be 0.008" for intake and 0.12" for the exhaust valves with the engine cold, if the compression does not increase after adjusting the valves the most likely cause is a leaking valve, in that case I recommend removing the cylinder head to inspect the valves and repair as necessary.
