Toyota Repair: toyota tercel - poor performance, toyota tercel, pep boys

Question
Hi Ted,
I had a breakdown last week -- 93 Tercel.  Pep Boys replaced the timing belt and idle pulley.  Now when I shift into gear and press down on the gas, there is very little response at first.  It's as though the car is still at idle.  Once moving, it continues to be unresponsive until I reach higher RPMs, then the engine revs pretty high (and has more power).
I add that when I broke down, I was going about 50mph and the car seemed to do the same thing -- meaning, it didn't respond much when I hit the gas.
It idles so low now that it occasionally dies at a stop light after running for a while.  I'm going to fiddle with the idle and see if that helps the overall problem.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rob

Answer
It's very possible that the cam timing is off, have the guys at pep boys recheck it so you can eliminate that as the problem, did they not make a recommendation or give an explanation why the car runs this bad after they replaced the timing belt.
Did the timing belt break? If not, what was the reason for replacing it?
