Question -
i have a 98 camry, 4 cylinder. here lately a number of electrically related things have started to go wrong. they could all be independant but i am quite suspecious. first, my remote car lock (on my keyring) has stopped working. then i have noticed that my clock has dimmed and is flickering. also, the vanity light on the passenger side no longer comes on. and lastly, my dome light has been doing goofy things from not coming on when it should to staying on when it shouldn't. i just had the battery checked and it checked out okay. and the alternator was said to be okay also and charging as it should. i realize that all these problems could have independent causes but it is funny that all are happening at the same time. any thoughts? thanks

Answer -
There have been some cases where the vanity light wiring has caused this problem, the moving up and down of the sun visor can over a period of time cause the wire to rub through and contact the metal of the roof, remove the sun visor and look for any burned or bare wires, if they appear good, try disconnecting the light and see if the problem persists, if not, replace the sun visor, there is a short in the light.

ANOTHER QUESTION;

thank you so much for your first answer. i checked the visor and i didn't see any rubbed raw wire but the light bulb was burned out.  also, i checked all the fuses and the one that controls the clock and the visor and the dome light was burnt. changed it out and all was better. however, my additional question is about the dome light. thought it was fixed. i replaced the bulb. the light came on and after the door was closed it stayed on a little while and then cut off as it is supposed to. however, an hour or so later i happened to look at it and it had come back on for no reason. this is the problem that i have been having. any thoughts that would make it come on by itself w/o opening the door? see if you can go two for two. i have faith. thanks again for your (prompt) help!!!!

Answer
The problem with the dome light staying on is that one of the switches on the door may be not closing, check them with the dome light on the "door" position, with all the doors closed, and the dome light still on, push each door in from the outside as hard as you can and see if one of them will make the light go off, this is the one that needs to be adjusted tighter to make the switch break the circuit, another way is to open all the doors and the pressing each door switch one at a time to see which one is pushed in without the light going off, you will need some assistantance with this this, I hope I'm not confusing you with all this but give it a try, if all of this doesn't help replace the dome lamp assembly.
