Toyota Repair: Front Brakes on 97 Camry needing replacement after a little more than a year,, brake pad shims, drum brakes

Question
I had my front brakes replaced a little more than a year ago.  I just had to replace them again.  Is this okay or should the brakes last a lot longer.  I've only driven approx 16,000 miles since that time.  Could there be something else wrongs that causing them to wear fast such as my struts, etc?

Answer
How long the brake pads last depends on driving habits, the pad material, and heat, normally under average driving they should last about 24,000 miles, I suggest that you have the rotors measured to make sure they are above the minimum thickness(26mm) and that sll the brake pad shims are installed and install factory toyota pads and have the rotors machined if serviceable, another factor is that if the rear brakes are out of adjustment(drum brakes only) it puts more wear on the front brakes, so make sure they are adjusted and checked when the front brakes are replaced.
