Toyota Repair: toyota camry 1989 cooling system, blown head gasket, 1989 toyota camry

Question
I have a 1989 Toyota Camry thats overheating possibly at the water pump water by-pass pipe gasket. The water seems to be leaking from a hole maybe on the backside of the pipe.  How would i know if it's my head gasket that is blown?

Answer
top off the radiator first... run the engine while the radiator cap is off. and look for bubbles coming out.
also you can do a compression test if any 2 cylinders are below the others by a large margin then u have a blown head gasket. also check your oil for milky substance.
most likely it's not the head gasket.... how many miles on the engine? it sounds like the water pump!
