Tractor Repair: overheating problem, fixing leaks, belt pulley

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I am looking up information for my husband, he has a 585 diseal caseIH, he just re-align the injector pump after repaired, thanks to a previous question from your website. after he got the tractor running, it is overheating and boiling back rapidly, was a previous problem, has replaced head gasket and water pump. he is talking about repairing it with a liquid substance. I found a product called steelseal and thermagasket on a link to this web, his tractor is a 4 cylinder, will this work. he is about to have a nervious breakdown over this tractor can you help

ANSWER: don't use this stuff it only for fixing leaks in the rad or block and its not always good for the engine so don't try it until we find out more
(1)can you see any water leaks
(2)when he done the head gasket did he fit a new thermostat if not fit one
(3)i take it the fan belt is fine.check to see if this tractor has a viscous fan you will know if its this type if you can spin the fan by hand with out the belt turning if it is this type let me know but most likely its a standard fan and the belt pulley will move with the fan
(4)if the rad still has the little pipe that is right alongside the rad cap (this is just a pipe that blows off excess water to the ground)pull up the pipe and if its in good nick stick it into a bottle of water leave the rad cap on start the tractor and rev it up if you start getting bubbles in the bottle you definitely have a head problem
try these suggestions and let me know what you find and get back to me

QUESTION: Mr.william he tried your suggestions saturday yes there was bubbles in the bottle. He said he was thinking it might be a cracked head, but was hoping not because he also has had the blocked repaired several years back. it's germany or european however you want to say it. we can not afford another tractor at this time. so what is the next step. thank you for your time.

Answer
you will have to remove the head.Take the head and gasket to a engine repair shop they should be able to tell by looking at the gasket if the gasket was blown and they can check the head to see if it is cracked. They will probably also skim the head
if they find no fault with the gasket or the head ask their advice and get back to me as well
if they do find a fault then refit the head with the new gasket
be sure to torque the head bolts(did he torque the head bolts the first time)
also it would be better to get new head bolts as if they have been used a few times they loose their spring and could cause the head gasket to fail prematurely
