Tractor Repair: Case 2590, clutch pedal, torque limiter

Question
We are trying to figure out what pressure the power shifts are supposed to be.  All Hydraulic pressures are showing good on the gauge.  We can't find anywhere what the packs are supposed to test at for psi. They slip in power shift 3 and maybe a little in power shift 2.  Any info you could give would help a lot.  Thanks.

Answer
Hello,

The powershift clutches should have 300 to 310 psi at 1500 rpm with the oil warmed up to at least 120 degrees F.  There are test ports for each clutch on the powershift control valve.  In powershift 1, C1 and C2 are engaged.  In powershift 2, C1 and C3 are engaged.  In powershift 3, C2 and C3 are engaged.  In reverse, C2 and C4 are engaged.  With the clutch pedal down, only C4 should be engaged.  As you can see, the two powershifts that slip have C3 clutch in common, so that is probably the one that is slipping.  If it would slip in all speeds and if the pressures are good, then the torque limiter is slipping.
