Question
Hi
My back brakes need replacing have read the manual and I seem to understand how to fix them, but I have limited equipment and was wondering if you could suggest the best and safest way to remove the back wheels I have no concrete on floor in shed.

Answer
Hello,

If the rear wheels aren't weighted, then it's not a problem to just jack up the tractor and unbolt the wheel and roll it away by hand.  But if there are wheel weights or liquid ballast in the tire, it gets dangerous and I wouldn't recommend moving it by hand because someone could get hurt.  I had a large rear wheel full of liquid ballast fall on me 3 years ago and crushed both my legs, so I wouldn't want anyone else to have the same thing happen.  A tractor with a loader or a skidsteer loader works well, but if you can't borrow one then you don't have much choice.
If you get a couple of people to help, you could move them by hand if you had to if there was no other way to do it.  Whatever you do, don't try it yourself without help!  Even after you get the wheels off, you have to remove the axle housings which will be hard to do without some kind of lifting device.  A cable puller or chain hoist or even a rope with pulleys could be fastened to the joists or rafters of the shed.
