Tractor Repair: john deere tractor loader, john deere tractor, tractor loader

Question
We have a 510 loader that came on a 5120 and today as we were going across the field the tilt on the bucket just fell to dump position. the valve will still operate the up and down the the tilt will not move at all.. has the valve broken or what and if this is the valve can I repair this with a kit or what please advise. by the way no hoses have burst so no air in system. thanks

Answer
Hello,

The piston could have come off the rod in one of the bucket cylinders.  Try swapping the hoses so that the valve for the boom operates the bucket and the valve for the bucket operates the boom.  If the problem stays the same, the problem is in one of the bucket cylinders.  If the bucket starts working but the boom will not raise, then the problem is in the valve.  I have no access to John Deere parts info, so I have no way to find out if there are repair parts available for the valve or if it has to be replaced.  If the cylinder is bad, sometimes it's cheaper to replace it than to buy the rod, piston, and seal kit.  Check on the prices of the parts and compare to a whole cylinder to see if it's worth fixing.
