Tractor Repair: Hydraulics-- Kubota L285, hook ups, kubota dealer

Question
Hi:

The hydraulic system on my 2-wheel Kubota L285 (dating from the early 80's) is out.  It consists only of the arms to the 3-point hitch; there are no other hydraulic hook ups operating.

There was a slow leak from underneath the gear shift-- from underneath the cup that sits atop the gearshift and rides over the hydraulic resevoir.  I checked the fluid level which consists of taking the top off the resevoir which is located under the gearshift or directly under the driver as he sits on the seat.  It was low. I added almost 5 gallons but that made no difference.

The local Kubota dealer says it's probably the hydraulic filter or screen which is located within the tank.  There are at least two obvious access plates, but I'm not sure which to open, and not sure what to do once I do.  oNe plate is on the lower side of the resevoir; the second is underneath.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Tim

Answer
Tim as far as I know there is a screen in the bootom of the trans casing which from memory was on the left hand side just in front of the axle housing.

Pull it out clean it up and see how you go with it the oil should be ok to re use just screen it as you e fill the trans with it.
