Triumph Repair: brether filters, triumph spitfire 1500, crankcase pressure

Question
QUESTION: I have just put a breather filter on my rocker cover and also two on the carbs where the pipe from the rocker cover was routed.
What are the implications? I was told by a guy at work today that the engine needs to circulate the oily vapours from the rocker cover.

ANSWER: Hi Simon,
What kind of car is this and what size and kind of filters did you install?

QUESTION: The car is a 76 Triumph Spitfire 1500. The filters aren't big and would be about 10cm in diameter, i have seen plenty and quiller triumph do sell them to put the rocker covers that they also sell.

Answer
Simon, If they are not too restrictive they may be ok. I have no experience with them so I can't tell you if they are ok or not. You just don't want to have any crankcase pressure build up. It would be noted by starting to burn oil and show blue smoke out of the exhaust pipe on acceleration. If you don't have those signs with the filters on, then they are probably ok.
