Triumph Repair: Electrical, turn signal switch, brake light switch

Question
I recently purchased a 1974 Spitfire 1500 and am having some electrical problems. Headlights, hazzard flashers and paeking lights work fine, brake lights work sometimes (have replaced the brake light switch), right turn signal works sometimes, LH turn signal doesn't work - the signal light on the dash stays on. I've cleaned all connections and replaced all bulbs. Wipers and heater motor work sometimes. I'm not an expert bet everything I've been able to find seems to point to the hazzard rocker switch. Any help is greatly apreciated!

Answer
Hi John,
You need to look at your wiring diagram and hot wire the LH turn signal wire at the turn signal switch to see that the lights are working on the left side because the flasher operates on the resistance of the bulbs and you need to confirm that the wiring and the bulbs are working before proceeding to any other component.

It is a waste of time to try to figure out what is wrong by all those items you have wrong. I found out many years ago to trace only one circuit at a time of an item that does not operate and many times it will correct other faults also.

If you don't have a wiring diagram, let me know and I will put one up on my web site for you to copy.
