Triumph Repair: 71 Spitfire - SU Carb, joe curto, float bowl

Question
Hi Scott - Wife just aquired '71 Spitfire (FK) with engine number starting FP. My research suggests this is a 1500 from a Midget. The single SU has no markings I can find. Any idea what model it might be or way to distinguish visibly?

Answer
Single SU or single ZS?  All the SU's I have seen usually have an aluminum tab on the float bowl, usually 3 letters and 3 numbers, and that tab can identify which car model it came from.

Otherwise you could contact Joe Curto (www.joecurto.com).  He is a well know SU and ZS carb person, and could probably help you identify the parts needed for a rebuild of the carb.

A 71 with an FP engine is likely a grafting done by a prior owner; I don't even thing a single SU was an option; if it were, it was only in Europe, certainly not the states.

Hope that helps; if not please clarify what information (more specifically, please) you are looking for, and I'll see if I can help.
