Triumph Repair: Triumph Spitfire 76 1500, triumph spitfire, firing order

Question
Great to find you. Drove out the other day about 10 blocks from home the car lost a lot of power, started shaking and I crawled home. I am a car dummy, but I replaced the plugs and cleaned dist. cap and lines. It did not help. I noticed that if I pulled either the first or second plug connection the car would die. However, if I pulled the 3rd or 4th plug connection nothing changed as I idled. Does this mean 3 and 4 are not firing? I even changed the connectors without helping. Any ideas.

Answer
Thom,

Does the car idle "normally" or is it a slow rough idle?

Remember that the Spitfire firing order is 1-3-4-2.  It sounds like possibly the #3 and #4 plug leads were swapped.

Pull the spark plugs to see how they look.  Swap in a new set and run them for a few minutes.. let the engine cool then check them.

Cheers,

Jim
