UK Car Repair: surf overheating, toyota surf, cambelt

hi I have a k reg toyota surf import ssr x suddenly it started overheating with the water boiling over from the refill bottle
it has no water in the oil could this still indicate the head casket,or is there another area i could look at?

Check the thermostat is not jammed closed.. replace the thermostat at any rate, it's close to 20 years old.

get some summer coolant and water and mix to the proper strength, think its about 60% coolant.


Check the radiator is not blocked.

Make sure the water pump is pumping water!, should be changed along with cambelt really on these, it's good sense to do it before it breaks, treat the waterpump like tha cambelt on these engines!



if you use just water the system will corrode quickly and block itself up with rust...
