UK Car Repair: pajero indicator switch, mitsubishi pajero, broken spring

Question
QUESTION: why does the indicator relay buzz when the indicator switch is in the off position? sometimes a bit of smoke comes off the switch, But when in the indicate position everything is fine and working, my vehicle is 1989 mitsubishi pajero 2.5 ltr diesel intercooler turbo wagon 3dr, I have tried servisol switch cleaner, but that appeared to make it worse, also buzzing stops when hazard lights are in operation,

ANSWER: Probably just a bad flasher unit, never heard of this before but it could be a broken spring in the flasher unit or some part of it is shorted, try a new flasher unit.

QUESTION: Thank you for your quick response, have just tried another flasher unit, but fault remains, any other ideas would be gratefully accepted, thank you.

Answer
I thought I already replied.. sorry, must have cliked wrong button.

The only possibilities are the indicat5or stalk itself or some short in the wiring, but since the hazards work theres little chance of it being a wiring fault, i'd just swap the indicator stalk and see if it works... 99% sure it will work and the stalk should only be a fiver or so from a breakers.
