UK Car Repair: 1972 mg midget starter, center shaft, centrifugal clutch

Question

starter?
Ok, so I put the fluids in the radiator and some gas in the tank, and the oil looks good,  but when I go to start it, all I hear is this click and I see it make a spark at the starter? but I dont hear the starter turning over or anything, is there supposed to be another wire attached to the starter or just the one?

Answer
best to pull off the starter and check it isn't siezed up, looks likely.

also,
I'm pretty sure this is an inertia starter motor (one wire only) - (kind of works like a centrifugal clutch-ish)
as opposed to a pre-engaging one equipped with a solenoid.

first Make sure the engine can be turned by hand, get a ratchet on the flywheel bolt and turn the engine round a few times to make sure it all turns smoothly.

Take off the starter and try to turn the center shaft, to see if it is in fact siezed,
if it is siezed -> with a fair bit of wiggling, tapping with a hammer and a little oil the starter will free up and work. but it may not last long if it has rusted bearings.
