UK Car Repair: 2001 S-Type, s type, temperature sensor

I have a 2001 S-type that keeps shutting off everytime it rains. I was told that it was the intake gaskett but I am not sure about that what do you think? also my heat only works for a few seconds on the drivers side then goes completely to cold air.should i just get a new car?

I don't see how it can be the intake gasket. does it seem to have anything to do with the wipers? When does it restart? right away, two hours later etc. It is more likely water getting into the car and dousing a control module.  As for the heat, you need to take it so someone who has a scanner and see what the computer says, although it is most liklely a temperature sensor.
