UK Car Repair: battery/fuel pump, earth cable, rover 214

got rover 214 sei,battery went flat, so bought new battery,
been out in it today,battery went flat again but you can hear fuel pump loader than normal ? as fuel pump worn out!

Answer
Something is draining the battery OR, it isn't being charged. Test for a drain by disconnecting the earth terminal and placing a test lamp between the earth cable and the terminal, if the light is on, something is using power. (note, the interior light circuit will be on if a door etc is open). You can now remove the fuses one at a time and see which one is causing the drain, as for the fuel pump, when did you last change the fuel filter?
