Volkswagen Repair: vw-passat 2000 Variant 1.8, shock absorber, golf gti

Question
My passat driving control system alarm stand "airbag fault". It has been repaired two times, mechanic plug in the computer and reset the alarms nad said that it should be ok now. It takes one or two days and alarm will come back. Do you have any idea what is the real fault. What did you recommend to do?

Best regards Mika

Answer
Mika, thank you for your question. Unsually the water cooled VW's are outside of my are but i will give some ideas about this.  normally airbag sensors are the problem.  from what you are describing that is what it sounds like.  this sensor is USUALLY located on the bumper or bumper shock absorber.  my kneejerk reaction is that the airbag sensor, fuse or air pump is failing.  there has been many complaints to NHTSA about problems with the airbag system on 2001 - 2003 Golf, GTI and Jetta, but VW has not issued any recalls as yet.
hope that helps
