Volkswagen Repair: Brake Drum Removal, vw cabriolet, wheel bolts

Question
I need to change the brake cylinder on my 1992 VW-Cabriolet. The first problem I encountered was removing the brake drum. I released the emergency brake but that did not allow me to remove the drum. Can you please advice as to how I can get this done?

Thank you,
Robert

Answer
Robert,

Sorry for the delay in answering.
With the wheel bolts removed, insert a small screwdiver into the hole at the 10 o'clock position wheel bolt. Move the screwdriver up and down in the hole until you feel the pin above the spring (you should be able to hear the screwdiver as it strums up the spring). Push up the pin at the top of the spring, this should release the brake shoes.

If you don't understand what I've written, I'll send you a diagram.

Good Luck,

Paul
