Volvo Repair: Volvo 850 SEDAN 4 DR 2.4L L5 PFI DOHC 20V, volvo 850, steering wheel

Question
QUESTION: I cannot start this car because of the alarm system.  I am not trying fix this myself but I would like to drive it to the shop.  It is a new car to me and I can't seem to find the fuses.  In my 240 they were right next to the steering wheel.

Could you explain how to disconnect fuse that makes the alarm go off but still start the car?  Is this the right approach?

ANSWER: Beth, its not as simple as that unfortunately.  Try this first.  Use the key in the drivers lock and unlock and lock the car several times until you see the red light on top of the dash go off.  If that works then dont worry about taking the car to the shop.  Let me know.  Roger

QUESTION: the red light in the dash is not coming on at all.  the hazards come on when I open the door and the alarm starts when I turn the ignition.

that red light was coming on at first while I was able to start the car.  It worked fine for two days, then I went to start the car and the problems started.

Answer
Beth, the fuse is in the engine bay by the drivers wiper.  I dont think that is going to help.  I take it the key trick didnt work.  I would have a Volvo shop look at it at this point.  I would have to do a few tests of my own to see whats going on.  Forget about the red light just try the key trick again.  If still no luck, then have it looked at.  Roger
