Volvo Repair: Face Vent Does not work, mirror defogger, pollen filter

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2002 Volvo S60. The air that comes out is cold and feels fine, but it will come out everywhere except the face vent. I have tried every setting for extended periods of time while traveling and at a standstill. The defrost/defog vents as well as the feet vents all work normally, but no, or very little air comes out of the face vent. At the moment I have been relying on the side view mirror defogger things to cool the car.

I have read elsewhere that a filter could be the problem, or something along the lines of charging the AC? The air is still cold and is very strong from all the vents except the face vent. Any answer is appreciated! Thanks!

ANSWER: I believe there is a mechanical dial that should open that. If the linkage has become dislodged it won't open the vent.Otherwise it would be a air distribution motor or something blocking the path of the door. The pollen filter shouldn't obstruct air from flowing through those vents and as long as cool air is coming out of the other vents the refrigerant level shouldn't be a issue.

QUESTION: This problem happens across all the vents at face level, such as the one to the left of the steering wheel, the middle console and the one to the right for the passenger. I think that the ones for the back passengers is also not functioning correctly. I have played with the dials for air flow for each vent, and even when the vent is open nothing comes out. All of them are still there, and closing them does stop what little air comes out of the vents. Is the air distribution motor something that I can reach? Or does this need to be taken to the dealer? Another possibility I thought of could just be that the knob controlling the different positions of air flow is not registering the face ones, but even on the settings that go to the feet and the face, the air flow is still minimal. Thank you for your timely response!

Answer
It sounds like you need to take it in to have the faults checked out. It does sound like vent motor. If its been a year go ahead and replace the pollen filter. There are 3 or 4 motors that control different functions, they are not too bad to get at depending on how comfortable you are disassembling the dash. The pollen filter is easy to replace.Under dash right hand side.4 screws. Any small kids dropping stuff in the vents?
