Volvo Repair: S80 Intake Cam Timing with TB Renewal, timing belt replacement, intake cam

Question
2000 S80 2.9; what's the procedure for setting the intake cam timing, in conjunction with timing belt replacement? This engine has variable intake cam timing; is the intake cam supposed to have a spring loaded feel to it when rotating the cam pulley counterclockwise?  If not, what is the proper position of the cam pulley with the engine and exhaust cam at TDC?  Are the factory tools or those from Assenmacher truly required for setting the base cam and crankshft timing?  Thanks

Answer
Jamie, yes I know these things, thats why I volunteer on this site.  Set the car up just like any other belt.  Make sure crank mark is set and 2 cams are pointed up where the marks are on the top cover.  The exhaust cam should stay put where it is.  If it moves, thats okay as long as when everything is back together, the marks all still line up.  Rotate engine twice with your ratchet after doing the belt and tensioner.
