Question -
1998 940 volvo auto.
Do you know how and what to disassemble to replace the gear shift indicator bulb on my Volvo.
Regards,
Alan.

Answer -
Alan, Yes. They are basically a pain.  You need 2 small fingers. The only thing you need to take off is the outer cover. You will be able to see the socket and replace the bulb.  Do not remove the shifter pattern assembly.  Roger

Thanks for the reply Roger,
I'm not sure what you mean by the outer cover. I've moved the trim (tray) that covers the gear selector that the hand brake goes through and with the help of a dentist mirror can just see the bulb holder under the shifter assembly on the right hand side. The gap betwen the shifter pattern assembly and the trim is just to narrow for fingers (less than 1cm). Any idea how I can get better access? I was thinking about taking off the trim on the foot well side but cannot work out how it comes off.
Sorry about the follow up qestions but U.K. shop manuals are useless.

Regards,
Alan.

Answer
Alan, see, I told you it was very hard to get too.  I have big fingers and I have a hard time getting in there.  I wouldnt mess with any of those side panels.  Just be patient and take you time with it.  I have used both index fingers and did it from the side.  Its real hard to explain.  Sorry I cant be much more help on this one.  This is one I would have to show you.  Roger
