Volvo Repair: Volvo v40 Dashboard backlight, phillips head screws, climate control system

Question
I have a 2003 V40 wagon, purchased new. Currently around 60,000 miles.
On the center dasboard console is an area for the climate control system.  There are three knobs - one is fan speed, one is vent/airflow direction, the third is temperature.  Below these three knobs are six on/off push buttons for items like seat heaters, AC, etc.  These buttons are aligned so that there are two beneath each of the three knobs.  I have noticed that the backlight on the left knob (fan speed) as well as the two on/off pushbuttons beneath this knob no longer illuminate.  I have scrolled the rheostat knob several times in an effort to see if it was a temporary glitch, but no luck.  All other dashboard lights are working properly.  Is this a bulb failure?  Can I replace this myself without a costly service call?  I appreciate any insight you could offer.

Thanks!

Answer
Yes the bulbs are available seperately.  I'm not quite sure how to replace them though.  You'll need to remove the climate unit from the dash.  First pop off the cover plate.  Then undo the 4 phillips head screws.  Push it in and pull all the connectors and one breather hose.  Then pull it out.  If there is not a place on the back to access the bulb socket then you will have to pop of the button.  It should just come off when you pull up or try to pry it off.  If it does not come off easy don't force it.  Neext time I see an older s/v40 I'll look closer to give you a better idea of how to get the bulb out.
