Volvo Repair: VOLVO 240 DL, volvo 240 dl, volvo 240

Question
We just purchased a 1987 Volvo DL for my son. He wanted to replace the radio with a new one that has a cd player. He un-installed the speedometer and fuel gauge (WHY I DON'T KNOW) and after plugging it back in it does not work. The only thing that works is the analog clock. I know there is a circluar connector and a curved connector, but is there something else that needs to be plugged int to get it to work again?

Thanks,
Dan

Answer
there is a white L shaped connector at the speedometer head location.this will attache to a flat piece of circuitboard on back of the cluster.be sure it is on in the proper direction or this will damage the instrument cluster and it will not work sort of like you are mentioning now.this conntor really only should go on one way but can be put on 2 ways.it has a female notch in the board and a male notch on the connector.there is also a yellow or yellow red wire that goes on back of the cluster to a spade terminal.it will be a single wire.if there is a whit/red wire and the car does not have a tachometer do NOT plug this wire in.it can damage the instrument cluster.
