Chevrolet: Gas Smell when shut off car, key switch, gas co

Question
I have a 1990 Chev Corsica (love it!). It has 168,500 miles on it. I keep up with the oil changes and all that. Lately, I have been noticing a strong gas smell in my car after I shut it off. I can smell it while driving, too, but moreso after I shut it off. Plus, once in awhile (1 time per month maybe), when I turn the ignition, nothing happens. I try it again, and it always starts that second time.

Thoughts? And if your thoughts are correct, how much $$ are we talking?

HI - Have you changed your gas ? it could just be the gasses / vapors in the ex.system as long as you do not smell it all the time. Also some gas co. add gasohol or a alcohol to the gas in the summer.or you might have to have the emissions checked-if  it get worse, but it might be nothing.and as far as the key that could be the key switch , but if only 1 x a mo.  is nothing to worry about now.
