Dodge: Engine Problems, dodge dakota, rattling sound

Question
I own a 1989 Dodge Dakota.  When I press on the gas pedal to a certain extent, my truck will bogg down very roughly and slow down.  But when I let off slightly it will catch up with its self.  Or when I press the pedal further down (To the floor), its fine.  Im pretty good with vehicles and stuff but i'm stumped on this one. I was hoping you could help me out.
Another symptom is a loss of power if that helps any.
                Thanx,

Answer
Keith,
When you start the truck have you noticed any unusual noise from under the truck such as some sort of rattling sound? It sounds like the catalytic converter is stopped up.Go to the rear of the truck and see if you can tell if the exhaust is restricted. If not check the fuel filter.
