Dodge: Front wheel spindle nuts and bearing seals, front wheel bearings, dodge ram 1500

Question
Hello Ram Man,
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive.  I am trying to find the front spindle nuts and wheel bearing seals for it.  None of the parts houses in San Diego show a listing for either part.  I belive the owners manual says the bearings are sealed type and do not require any servicing.  I am not an advocate of sealed for life mentality.  I now have 80,000 miles on the truck, do I need to worry about the front wheel bearings not being re-packed.  What are your feelings on this and where can I obtain the said parts?
Thanks again for your time,
Barry Bauer

Answer
Barry,
Sealed bearings are put on some vehicles, but i feel the same way.You may have to check the dealer. If you checked the parts house and they told you this it may be that this vehicle requires sealed bearings,i was thinking you could change to the regular grease packing bearings. As far as worrying about them being sealed they are good bearings and don't require servicing due to the fact that the front wheel doesn't get dirt in it.I would check the dealer to see if they can be changed to the regular wheel bearings,i'm sure they can be.
