To Ram Man,

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with just over 50,000 miles. Within the past 2 months I have had a complete tune-up and gaskets replaced. This past month I had the fuel pump replaced. However, I still have issues with the check gages light. Sometimes I might just back up and the check gages light will come on. Or when I stop at a red light or stop sign the check gages light might come on. When the light does come on the oil pressure gage goes to zero but when I start to drive again it will read normal. CAN YOU HELP?

follow-up - the engine is a 5.2L, the intake gaskets were replaced (along with the tune-up)because of the check engine light. HOWEVER, the new problem is with the check guages light. This was when the oil pump was replaced. Check gauges light still comes on and oil pressure level goes to zero though(backing up, stop & go at red lights).

What size engine do you have?also you said had the gaskets replaced, which gaskets are you talking about?I think from what you are describing is most likely an electrical problem.Possibly some kind of short.OK,I know on the 5.2 the plenum gaskets are faulty and will cause the truck to consume oil and will also cause the oil pressure guage to move back and forth. As far as the check guages it is more than likely an electrical problem.Do you mean check engine or check guages?

Answer
Did a dealer install the oil pump?My concern is the oil pressure dropping to zero!I would go to whoever installed the oil pump and tell them your problem and that this started when the oil pump was installed. If the problem started after the oil pump was installed it has to be something to do with the oil pump,It is not good to have the oil pressure drop this low on any vehicle.Although it could just be something as simple as a loose wire or connection, but they should warranty any work such as this within this short of a time frame (past 2 months)!I wish i could help you more, the only thing is if you tamper with anything now as trying to repair it they can say that they will not back the warranty.Keep me posted....RamMan
