Ford: Poor starting 6.9 lt. Diesel, rathdrum id, tony myers

Dusty, My 86 f-250 Diesel upon attempting to start most of

the time will not fire up at first, after second or third

attemps it will, also on some accasion after it does start

it idles rough. About 100 miles ago I installed a new fuel

pump and changed out the washers on the injectors. If it

starts it runs fine also when it shift from low to second

it shifts hard (automatic), what could the problem be

there? Your time is greatly appreciated!

do you have glow plugs in your truck? if so check the relay controling them it sounds like they are not comming on properly, if at all, the transmission issue is most likley due to a plugged trans filter.
