Ford: Ford Escort Cabriolet 1.8 si - M Reg/1995, ford escort cabriolet, amp meter

Question
Hello
I wonder if you may be able to help me?
I have a problem with the aforementioned car.  It turns over but there is no spark (there was an immobiliser/wiring problem which completley immobilised the car but this is now fixed) I suspect the Crank Position Sensor but wanted your advice.
Many Thanks

Answer
This is the most common failure.

There are others, but let's start here

Other systems such as fuel gauge, turn signals, warning chime and shift lock actuator on automatic transmission vehicles may also be inoperative. With the key on, check for battery voltage on the Blue wire at the coil positive terminal. If not present, check for battery voltage at the 15 amp meter fuse in the instrument panel fuse box. If no voltage present, gain access to the ignition switch and check at the Blue wire coming out of the switch. If no voltage present, verify the large Black wires have battery voltage. If they are OK, replace the ignition switch.
