Ford: exhaust-leaking around Ypipe, side pipe, ford truck

Question
QUESTION: How do you repair them?  Ford says it will take four hours and $550.00.
Gary Beckes

ANSWER: is this on a 99 up mustang? if so there is a TSB on it and it needs to be welded up... 550.00 is a lot to ask for to repair this... and it does NOT take 4 hours.... I have not charged more than 1.5 hrs to do this repair... (If it is the crack on the pass side pipe...)

QUESTION: Exhaust-leak around Ypipe is on a 1999 250 diesel ford truck
How do you repair that.

Answer
ok. this is  a little different... there is a small "doughnut" gasket that goes between the Y pipe and the turbo there are also some gaskets between the y pipe and the manifolds. they might slao need to be replaced. if you have access to a lift and some patients you can do this yourself. (I only sugjest a lift if possable) it sounds like you just need to remove the y pipe and replace the gaskets around it. try shopping around... some smaller shops might have a better labor rate than the 135.00 + that the local dealer is charging. look up under sutomotive repair in the phone book... good luck and I hope this helps....
