We have a 1995 Explorer 4WD with 141K miles. What a great vehicle! But anyway, the antilock brakes always activate when coming to a stop - dry pavement and all. This seems to be coupled with a turn of the steering wheel to the left during the pulsing of the brakes. So I have removed the ABS fuse to stop the symptoms, but would like to actually fix the problem. Suggestions on how to go about this?

is the abs light on?
The ABS light never went on until I removed the fuse to disable ABS. With the fuse removed, the brakes work smoothly like they should, and the ABS light stays on.

Phil it sounds like you may have a comp. problem what i would do first is put the fuse back in .and go to auto zone to ck if you have any codes stored in memory .don't by anything let me know what it is .

OK, after a brief hiatus, I have returned.. I reinstalled the fuse and went to AutoZone. When I stopped in the parking lot, the problem reoccured in exactly the same way. The woman (cool!) at AutoZone identified the following codes (none of which are associated with ABS according to her - in fact, she said that they can not diagnose ABS problems). Anyway, the codes that were identified were the following: 335, 539, 733, 232, 132.

Phil it is saying that your abs sensor on the top of your rearend is either unplugged or shorted. if you get one only get it from the dealership.Very simple the replace

I got the new part from the dealer and replaced it. The old one measured about .7 ohms between the terminals and the new one about 1.1 ohms. The problem still is happening in basically the same way. (Just before you come to a stop, the ABS activates.) So if the problem is with the signal from this sensor, is there some other location that I can check for continuity, as it seems that the sensor itself is ok.

Answer
yea if you go under the vehicle by the frame rail under the driver seat you will see the module remove the plug and ck to see if the termanal ends are clean. test it from there.did you disconect the battery after you replace the sensor and does this vehicle have front abs?
