GM-GMC: cold start problem 1989 GMC 5.7, intake leaks, cold start

Question
When I start my truck cold I have to keep it running with my foot revving until it warms up then it will idle. It must be revved not held steady on the pedal or it will just stall. Seems to turn over a lot before starting after a night. Starts quickly when hot.

Answer
Cory, there are several reasons why cold stall happens. Lets check a few things first.  Wire age/condition. Plugs, Gap, Cap and rotor condition. If these things are new lets check timing and existing engine codes.  If these are good lets check for wet cylinders (injector leak down), remember you have 45 psi of fuel pressure that can leak down all night causing your cylinders to be wet giving you a flooded condition. if thats not happening check for intake leaks, this type of leak can close when the engine warms up a little. That about all really.  Good luck
