GM-GMC: Turbo charging a 6.2 1984 4x4 pick up, turbo work, aftermarket suppliers

Question
Is there any other way besides banks turbo to turbocharg my 6.2 engine. I have the 6.5 exaust manifold and the intake as well.  Will a 6.5 turbo work on this 1984 chevy 4X4 pick up? In other words will the 6.5 turbo system work on this truck? Or what will?

                         Thanks much for your
                         help.

Answer
Jim,

Yes, the hardware from a 6.5 turbo-diesel will fit and work on a 6.2.  You will need a manual wastegate control system (those are available from diesel aftermarket suppliers) and to figure out where to get the oil for the turbo and how to return it to the engine.

Other than the Banks or OEM 6.5 system, you would have to fabricate a lot of parts to fit a different system on your engine.  If you have factory air, watch the clearances on the passenger side and you will need to work with the exhaust system to clear the leaf springs on the front of the vehicle.
