GM-GMC: 1989 Chevy truck tilt steering, tilt wheel, salvage yard

My tilt wheel has alot of up and down and side to side play in it. No matter what position it is in.Just wondering if this is a common problem and how diffcult it is to repair? My steering wheel will not fall off, will it?  thanks

No, the steering wheel will not fall off.  However, it may begin to bind or jam if the play gets excessive.

The column can either be rebuilt or one obtained from a salvage yard installed to cure the problem.

The salvage yard solution is likely to be less expensive.
