GM-GMC: 1997 Chevy P.U, acceleration, fuel pressure regulator, fuel system components

Question
my '97 2 wd, v-6 has lost most of its ability to accelerate over the past few months...If I try to quickly accelerate it bogs down and even backfires sometimes now...It runs smoothly around town so long as I don't try to speed up quickly...on the highway I have to nurse it along from 25-40 for awhile til I find a downgrade and then I can slowly get it to speed up to 60+
the air filter is clean...I had the engine replaced last year but perhaps not all the fuel system components, egr etc...its getting so I spend $500 every time I bring it to the garage and things are tight, so I'm wondering if you can steer me towards possible problem components...thanks
